Mountbatten & Jellico

These Admiral Class boats are now in the ownership of Richard and Ruth Chaimberlain, who are trading on the Shropshire Union Canal as well as the Llangollen Canal. They carry coal, diesel and gas through the winter, and range further afield in the summer months, using Jellico as a floating emporium, mainly selling painted ware, hand done by Ruth.

The “Admiral" class of boats were built on the instructions of British Waterways at two yards, Pimblotts and Yarwoods, in Northwich around 1960. Mountbatten and Jellico were built as a pair at Yarwoods.

These boats were famously owned and worked by Ivor and Mel Bachelor for many years,, and latterly were worked on the Llangollen Canal by Jon and Hannah Wardman. Ivor bought Mountbatten from Pete Robertson in the eighties, about a year before I purchased Roach from Pete’s brother Ken.
